EGLY-OURIET Les Vignes de Bisseuil 1er Cru
Chardonnay based assemblage
80% Chardonnay, 10% Pinot Noir, 10% Pinot Meunier
The wine comes from a 1.5-hectare parcel in the Premier Cru vineyard "Bisseuil," located directly adjacent to the Grand Cru sites "Ay" and "Bouzy" in the Montagne de Reims. Unlike the rest of the range, this champagne is made predominantly from Chardonnay (>80%). It undergoes spontaneous fermentation and is aged entirely in stainless steel. After 48 months on the lees, it is disgorged with an extra-brut dosage.
This is not quite as opulent in style as Egly’s Grands Crus; instead, it presents a finer, more linear character with a slightly tauter profile.
Parker 92/100: Egly's NV Brut Vignes de Bisseuil offers aromas of sweet orchard fruit and crisp white peach mingled with notions of white flowers, praline and freshly baked bread, it's medium to full-bodied, pillowy and charming, with a fleshy core of fruit and a racy, chalky spine. It's a bright, precise rendition of this Chardonnay-dominant cuvée.
Galloni 92/100: Champagne Les Vignes de Bisseuil Premier Cru Brut is airy, sculpted and bright. Citrus peel, crushed rocks, white flowers, mint, white pepper and chalk are some of the notes that run through this bracing, super-expressive Champagne from Egly-Ouriet. This is an especially nervy style for the house. This is beautifully done.
